Under these conditions, UxuR remains unmodified, binds its target sites preventing its own expression and the expression of its regulated genes. In the presence of fructuronate, UxuR is modified to UxuR-fructuronate, unbinds its target sites enabling its own expression and the expression of its regulated genes.
