Name: TrpR
Description: Molecular biology level
TrpR negatively regulates the expression of genes required for tryptophan transport and biosynthetic process in the presence of tryptophan. Under these conditions, TrpR is modified to TrpR-tryptophan, binds its target sites preventing its own expression and the expression of its regulated genes. In the absence of the effector, TrpR unbinds its target sites enabling the expression of its regulated genes.

Physiology level
The presence of tryptophan inhibits the expression of genes necessary for tryptophan transport and biosynthetic process. Under these
conditions the genes necessary for transport and synthesis of tryptophan from serine and conversion of erythrose-4P to chorismate, a precursor of tryptophan, are not expressed.
