Note(s): Based on mutations of the -10 and -35 boxes of the malI promoter, Lloyd et al. (2009) Lloyd GS,2008showed that the promoter activity is decreased by mutations in both boxes. On the other hand, these investigators used site-directed mutagenesis at the -10 element identified by Reidl et al. (1989) and found this mutation had very little effect on malI promoter activity. All this suggests that the transcription start identified by Lloyd et al. (2009) must be 5 bp upstream from that determined experimentally by Reidl et al. (1989) Reidl J,1989
