Note(s): This is the +1 in induced cells; in uninduced cells transcription starts 5 bp dowstream: GATTAGA-(here). Several regions with significant similarity to known σ70 promoter sequences were found. Previous genetic studies identified a dadR gene as a cis-acting regulatory region of the dad operon. Therefore, the dadR region may contain promoter and regulatory sequences of the dad operon. The DNA fragment of about 260 bp preceding dadA should correspond to dadR.
