Summary:
SoxS is a dual transcriptional activator and participates in the removal of superoxide and nitric oxide and protection from organic solvents and antibiotics [13, 25, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34]. SoxS shares 49% identity with MarA and the N-terminal domain of Rob [35]. These proteins activate a common set of about 50 target genes [1, 5, 36, 37], the marA/soxS/rob regulon, involved in antibiotic resistance [11, 38, 39], superoxide resistance [32, 40, 41], and tolerance to organic solvents [34, 42] and heavy metals [43].
