Note(s): The small regulatory RNA CpxQ is located in the 3' UTR of the cpxP mRNA. It acts at the translational level to reduce CpxP protein levels; cpxP mRNA transcription or stability are not affected. In addition, CpxQ negatively regulates production of the |FRAME: CPLX0-7711| when the Cpx stress response system is activated; this regulation may function to prevent Skp from mis-inserting OMPs into the inner membrane Grabowicz M,2016.
CpxQ was first identified in Salmonella and comprises the most conserved region of the cpxP transcription unit. In Salmonella, it was shown that CpxQ is generated from the cpxP transcript by RNase E cleavage, and its stability is enhanced by Hfq 26805574. Involvement of RNase E in transcript processing was later shown in E. coli as well Updegrove TB,2019.
